‘ntg’ Magazine Introduces T@lecom’s Wireless Solutions
CEO Jan O’Hara, formed T@lecom in May 2002 with the aim to deliver a best of breed, cost effective wireless solution to the transport and logistics industry.
Traditional paper based delivery systems had become outdated, costly and inefficient, but the wireless solutions so far offered to the market used bulky protective handsets with high levels of initial capital investment and large call costs on top.
Jan had been heavily involved with GPRS technology with O2 from its inception, giving him a unique insight into the needs of the transport and telecoms markets and how best to make the technology work.
Based from offices at Coventry University’s Technocentre, T@lecom began to develop its ground breaking, cost-effective real-time proof of delivery system – Wireless Delivered™. This is the most advanced mobile data solution currently available to the transport industry, with affordable real-time job control and signature capture system, enabling the instant, cost effective transfer of data and delivery information between any back office system and field employee via a PDA device.
Wireless Delivered™ includes many innovative features including text to speech, voice activation and instant messaging with optional integrated satellite navigation and automatic vehicle location available.
Optional Extras include:
Integrated Satellite Navigation facility; by utilizing information from the Wireless Delivered™ product, drivers simply request directions to the desired location. Based on the vehicles current position the navigation system works out the driver’s best possible route and provides clear on-screen directions and verbal instructions.
Automatic Vehicle Location facility – enables the real time location of vehicles every 60 seconds to within 10 meters. It also allows the tracking of the routes vehicles are using, start, stop times and other reporting functionality.
Wireless Delivered™ has been specifically developed for the transport and logistics industry and is available in two variants; ‘Express’ for the dedicated same day courier and ‘Manifest’ for the overnight delivery carrier.
It has already been adopted by a number of the major carriers in the UK and European marketplace, with end users such as Concord Couriers and Hellmann Overnight Logistics. Gary Daniel, Managing Director of Concord says: “This is an excellent product – we couldn’t live without it. Customer satisfaction is very high.”
